what is data communication and how data communicates?
DATA COMMUNICATION
Definition:
" It is the exchange of data between two devices,via some from of transmission media(such as wire or cable)."
- Data communication is local if communicative devices are in the same building and is considered remote if the devices are far apart .
For Data communication to occur it depends on three fundamental characteristics:
- Delivery: The system must deliver data to the correct destination.
- Accuracy:The system must deliver data accurately.
- The system must deliver data in timely manner.
Data communication there are system made five components that are:
Message:
- The message is the information is to be communicated.
- It consist of text ,numbers ,pictures,sounds,videos or may a combination of all these.
Sender:
- The sender is the device that sends the data message.
- It can be a computer ,workstation,telephone,handset,video and so on.
Receiver:
- The device which the message is called receiver.
Medium:
- The transmission medium is the physical path by which a message from sender to receiver.
- IT can be twisted dair cable ,coaxial cable ,fibre optic cable ,laser,radio webs (Terrostrial or satellite).
Protocol:
- A protocol is a set of rules that govern data communication .
- It represent an aggrements between the communicating devices.
